Somewhere in your sent folder is a deal that died quietly. You didn't lose it to a competitor. You didn't lose it on price. You lost it to silence. Yours. You sent a strong email, got no reply, assumed they weren't interested, and moved on. They didn't reply because they were busy. Same as you. Nobody followed up, so nothing happened.
WHAT WORKS
Three days after any outbound email with no reply, send one line:
"Hey, did this land in a bad week?"
That's the whole follow-up. No recap. No apology for "circling back." One sentence that acknowledges reality without being needy.
If still no reply after 7 more days:
"Happy to close the loop if timing's off. Just let me know either way."
Then you're done. Two follow-ups, move on with a clear conscience.
WHAT DOESN'T WORK
- Forwarding your original email with "just bumping this up." It signals you have nothing new to add.
- Re-explaining your pitch. If they forgot, a wall of text won't fix it.
- Waiting two weeks because you didn't want to seem pushy. By then you're not pushy, you're irrelevant.
- "Per my last email." Just don't.
ONE THING TO DO THIS WEEK
Open your sent folder. Find every email older than 3 days with no reply. Send the one-line follow-up to each one today.
Block 20 minutes. That's the whole task.
I kept missing these, and it wasn't for lack of caring. I had 40 open threads and no system for knowing which ones had gone cold. That's why I built Alacrio. It watches your sent folder and surfaces threads that need a follow-up before they die quietly.
